Internship Program Information
Internships are valuable opportunities that allow students to gain experience, build resumes, and further explore their intended field of interest. WITS/MAALOT has partnered with various local schools and therapy centers to offer internships and observation hours to students pursuing careers in Occupational Therapy, Physical Therapy, Speech Therapy, Applied Behavior Analysis Therapy, and Education/Special education. Academic credit is earned upon successful completion of course requirements. These include regular attendance and satisfactory conduct at the placement, weekly assignments that reflect learning and progress during the internship, and a final paper/portfolio. This is a competitive internship program. Students are required to apply within the application period before the start of each semester. Applications for the OT, PT, SLP and education/special education internships are available online or in the office.
Students who are pursuing a career in ABA may earn academic credit for the semester in which the initial training and subsequent supervised client contact hours are completed. The ABA internship has its own application process. Interested students should contact Miriam Newmark, Maryland Clinical Director of Attentive Behavior Care, Inc., at 410-424-7000 ext. 131 or at email@example.com to apply for a position. Once hired, students should then contact the Internship Program Coordinator.
A student who secures an internship on her own may earn credit for that internship provided it meets certain requirements. To receive credit, the internship must be approved before the start of the internship and must be completed before the end of the semester in which the student is receiving credit. An internship approval form is available online or in the office.
Application and approval forms must be signed by your academic advisor before they are submitted. Students may participate in the internship program during the Fall, Spring, or Summer semesters, depending on availability. The deadline to submit an application for the Fall semester is 3 PM on Monday, August 27th. Late applications will be accepted only if there are open slots. Upon acceptance/approval, the student must then register for the 3-credit internship course. The tuition for the internship course is the same as a 3-credit course. If you have any questions related to the internship program or for pre-approval please contact Mrs. Rachel Wainhaus, Internship Program Coordinator, at firstname.lastname@example.org.
